Baucus Calls on Montanans to Highlight Unsung Wildfire Heroes

Senator Asks Montanans to Submit Stories of Heroism, Releases New Wildfire Resource Guide

Posted: Thursday, July 19, 2012

(Washington, D.C.) - Montana's senior U.S. Senator Max Baucus is calling on Montanans to submit nominations for his 2012 Wildfire Heroes Initiative. In his ongoing effort to make sure Montana's wildfire season receives priority status at the national level, Baucus is working to draw attention to people who have gone the extra mile to help their neighbors or strangers through the 2012 wildfire season.

"Working together is the Montana way and I'm looking under every rock to make sure Montana gets the support it needs this wildfire season.  While the fires have displaced hundreds of Montanans, and torched hundreds of homes - every day folks have risen to the challenges to help a neighbor or a stranger in need.  I hope to highlight that spirit at the national level," said Baucus.

Montanans can submit hero nominations on Baucus' new Wildfire Resource Guide which is a one-stop-shop for Montanans impacted by wildfires. The resource guide includes:

·        A tab where Montanans can submit names to recognize 2012 Montana Wildfire Heroes

·        A clearinghouse of information for individuals trying to navigate federal disaster programs

·        Wildfire status reports/safety information

·        A special segment for farmers and ranchers who have suffered losses from wildfires this year
