Baucus Releases Wildfire Public Service Announcement

Senator Continues Pressing Federal Agencies for Montana Wildfire Resources

Posted: Friday, July 20, 2012

(Washington, D.C.) - Montana's senior U.S. Senator Max Baucus is raising wildfire prevention awareness with his public service announcement he issued today.

Ø Baucus Public Service Announcement on wildfire prevention can be viewed online HERE.

Text of Public Service Announcement:

"Hi friends, Max Baucus here. We Montanans are outdoor people. We love to hunt, fish, camp and enjoy the state we're lucky to call home.

As we enjoy our State's scenic beauty this summer, remember that there's high danger of wildfires.  Unfortunately many existing fires have been caused by human carelessness.  These could have been prevented by a little precaution on our parts.  I encourage everyone to take responsibility by observing fire restrictions.  You can find information about fire restrictions by visiting www.firerestrictions.us/mt or by visiting your local land management office."

Baucus is also asking Montanans to share stories of people who have gone the extra mile to help their neighbors through wildfire season by nominating them for his 2012 Wildfire Heroes Initiative. Montanans can submit names and stories online by clicking on this LINK and selecting "Hero Nomination" under the topic tab.

Ø Baucus Wildfire Resource Guide can be accessed online at this LINK

The resource guide includes:

  •  A tab where Montanans can submit names to recognize 2012 Montana Wildfire Heroes
  •  A clearinghouse of information for individuals trying to navigate federal disaster programs
  • Wildfire status reports/safety information
  • A special segment for farmers and ranchers who have suffered losses from wildfires this year
