(Washington, D.C.) - Montana's senior U.S. Senator Max Baucus today voted against a version of the so-called cyber security legislation that raised significant concerns over privacy rights for individuals and undue burdens on businesses.

"This bill is a knee-jerk reaction that threatens the privacy rights of our citizens and burdens our businesses.  Instead of setting up unnecessary regulations that might not even work, we need to go back to the drawing board and come up with a  real solution that protects the privacy rights of Montanans and actually works to make America safer," Baucus said.

The bill  failed to get the votes it needed to move past a procedural hurdle in the Senate today.
