Max Baucus: Providing Jobs to Keep Montana’s Communities Safe:

As chairman of the powerful Senate Finance Committee, Montana’s senior U.S. Senator, Max Baucus was a key author of the Jobs Bill- working to ensure the economic recovery legislation was right for Montana. The Jobs Bill will bring more than $600 million dollars to Montana and create or sustain more than 11,000 jobs.

Max is committed to helping Montana’s law enforcement do their jobs and get home safely. He made sure the Jobs Bill contained funding for drug task forces, and will help local officers secure the equipment and training they need to keep their communities safe.

The Jobs Bill’s provisions for Law Enforcement include:

  • $5 million in Justice Assistance Grants (JAG) funding in Montana. The dollars will help retain and hire drug task force officers to fight methamphetamine and other illegal drugs
  • $1 billion in Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) nationwide funding, to help communities hire more law enforcement officers.
  • $225 million for tribal law enforcement programs.
  • $125 billion for rural law enforcement programs, nationwide.

There are several resources available for organizations interested in receiving some of this vital funding. The websites recovery.gov and recovery.mt.gov are excellent places to start.  Baucus staff can also offer support including help contacting the appropriate agency or department and providing support during the funding process.
